Appel Osborne Receives ASLA Award
Appel Osborne has been selected as the recipient of a Merit Award for the design of Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s Primate Park in Syracuse, NY, and will be recognized at the ASLA New York Upstate Annual Chapter Design Awards Reception. Primate Park encompasses many unique design elements to achieve a naturalized, interactive play area for the primates with multiple public viewing experiences and sustainable design features. The entries were judged by a panel from the Georgia ASLA Chapter.
Appel Osborne has been selected as a recipient of an ASLA Merit Award for site design related to a 32,000 sf building addition at Cherry Road Elementary School at the Westhill Central School District in Syracuse, NY. The mission for the project was to provide a safe and inherently educational environment for the students, staff and surrounding community, including the goal to obtain LEED certification. Site design included improved parking areas and walkways, a new bus loop and a new entry plaza. Sustainable site features included a native vegetation plant bed surrounded by permeable pavers, permeable paver seating areas skirted by benches made of recycled materials, native wildflowers and grasses and an all- native plant species mix. The plantings encompass the entire addition, culminating with an extensive rain garden system. For the project’s LEED submission, AOLA prepared the site plan and required documentation for several credits, contributing 15 points toward LEED certification. AOLA is honored to have this project recognized by ASLA.
