Appel Osborne Wins ASLA Honor Award
Appel Osborne Landscape Architecture was thrilled to receive the ASLA Honor Award on February 3, 2017. AOLA Project Manager, Bernie Martin, and Senior Partner, Pete Osborne, were present to accept the award for Built Design for the site design at MacArthur Elementary School in the Binghamton City School District. The school was flooded in 2011 and required redesign of the entire building and site. Site design was focused on the safety of the school community and design elements were implemented to help avoid, and also prepare, for a future flood event. Sustainable site design was also an important component of this project and included multiple green infrastructure elements such as nine bio-retention areas, a reed bed, and permeable pavements for storm water runoff reduction. AOLA provided assistance to the Architect in the pursuit of LEED Platinum status. Appel Osborne is proud to have been a part of this project, and our firm is honored to receive recognition from the American Society of Landscape Architects.
