Willis V. Carrier Park is Important Asset to Community

Town of DeWitt Supervisor, Dr. Edward M. Michalenko, contributed an article to Syracuse.com in which he expresses the importance of “building community” and the positive impact the new Carrier Park will have in this endeavor.  The dream of Carrier Park started to become a reality in 2009 when Michalenko reached out to officials at the Carrier Corporation.  The company donated 22+ acres of land to be developed into the community recreational hub.  Goals of this project included providing DeWitt with economic strength, stability, and security, but the park is largely centered around the Syracuse Challenger Baseball program.  Michalenko partnered with childhood friend and Syracuse Challenger Baseball Executive Director, Dom Cambareri, to create a home for the program.  Appel Osborne Landscape Architecture has worked with the Town to develop a park that is exceptionally accommodating to this program.  AOLA Partner, Tim Bonaparte, and Project Manager, Taylor Goldthwait, have designed the “Field of Dreams” to be fully handicap-accessible so that children and adults of all abilities can participate in sports and building community together.  The complex will include up to nine tournament-quality fields including synthetic turf fields that can be used for baseball, softball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, football, and other special events.  The facility will also include basketball courts, an all-inclusive playground, and walking trail.  Michalenko concludes his article by stating that Carrier Park plays a key role in building fiscal strength, stability, and security for DeWitt, Onondaga County, and Central New York residents and businesses, while also cultivating relationships with Carrier Corporation and the special needs community.  Appel Osborne is honored to be a part of this very special project.
