Middletown Enlarged City School District
2011 New Elementary School
- The building and majority of site components for the new 200,000 s.f. elementary school needed to be constructed on an existing elementary school site, which will be demolished after new building completion.
- Site design incorporated initiatives in alignment with CHPS standards. All aspects of development incorporated sensitivity within the surrounding landscape and protection of natural resources.
- Site improvements included teacher/staff/visitor parking of over 250 vehicles, bus loop to accommodate over 30 buses, campus access road, service (loading area development), retaining walls, separate parent drop-offs at both primary and intermediate levels. There is pedestrian circulation around the entire 46+ acre campus, with access to playfields, playscapes, educational wetlands, and wooded nature trails. Landscaping was incorporated to reflect the pastoral nature of the site and evoke a campus-like feel.
2007 Athletic Facilities
- All-purpose athletic stadium that included spectator and athlete circulation around a new field house, concession area, and 3,500 seat bleacher facility.
- Site improvements also included retaining wall design, storm water management, high school cafeteria landscape and delivery circulation improvements, and faculty parking expansion.
- Athletic field design and layout include I.A.A.F. certified 8x10 lane fully poured all-weather running track and field events, FIFA recommended football/soccer/lacrosse synthetic turf field, natural grass softball, soccer, lacrosse, and baseball fields at the middle school and two (2) additional 400 meter tracks, one at each middle school.
- Installed conduit into the track surface to accommodate future installation of a “Finish Lynx” timing system which ties into the scoreboard.
- Protective fencing, dugouts, playscapes, and pedestrian circulation were also included.
- Constant on site inspection, review and direction to keep project on schedule. Prepared weekly bulleted item reports that allowed the contractor to have virtually no punch list items at project completion.
- Job drawings were created and distributed within 48 hours of direction.
